Will wanted us to spend enough hours on our last assignment to make a FINISHED porfolio piece.  Very good for me--I tend to speed through my paintings and set it aside before it's really done.  Thanks for makin us stick it out, Will!

We had to match colors the best we could with these two landscapes.

This was an in-class exercise.  We all painted from the same source, limited to using ONLY two secondary colors, and black and white.

In class: try something new.  I tried going geometric.

Homework: anything we want.

In class: try paint as realistic as possible.  Open to full color palette.

Free Time Art--Snow Bear!

My first night home for Christmas Break, the snow was PERFECT.  This awesome bear was begging to be born.  Sadly, he only lasted about 2 days before tipping forward and losing his arms.  The sun decided to heat up the next day.  He remained in my yard the whole break however, just not standing up.

2nd Sketch Book-Fall 2010

In my "Drawing for Illustration" class with my amazing professor Don Seegmiller (see his amazingness here) we had to draw 200 pages worth of sketches, spending 30 minutes on each page.  Subject matter was open to whatever we wanted, he just cared about the fact that we were drawing, and more importantly, having fun as we draw.

His only rules were this:  We could NOT erase.  He preferred us to draw with pen (I used both felt tip and ball point) or black prismacolor pencil.  You'll see a mixture of both, as well as watercolor pencil.  I only selected my favs to include in my blog.

My friend Stewart Craig showed me a really awesome tool using water color pencil and a little water brush that holds water in the handle and you squeeze it out as you draw, then smear the pencil around.  You get great effects!  Like this elephant!  And dancy musketeer!  And fishy!  And racoon!

So I went to the midnight viewing of the first half of the 7th Harry Potter movie!  I had to draw from the movie the next day!  Here's a couple:
